The Ridge Learning Center

Vision Overview

With the unprecedented economic development occurring in our region, the need for a talented workforce has become increasingly more important. In order to help meet the growing demand for a highly trained and technically-skilled workforce, The Ridge Learning Center (Ridge) being proposed on-site at River Ridge will be of great benefit in helping current and future area employers develop the workforce they need to maximize their success. The Ridge Learning Center will clearly demonstrate a progressive and pragmatic approach by our community to support companies and their employees. It reflects innovative investment and proven strategic practice in attracting, developing, and retaining talent, which should enhance economic growth.

In addition, to assist working parents better meet the academic and socio-economical needs of their children, The Ridge Learning Center will incorporate a high quality child care/pre-school. The pre-school will meet the Paths to Quality Level 4 criteria, which is the highest standard of quality in Indiana.

The Learning Center

The Learning Center will work with businesses and organizations in need of a higher quality workforce to train new workers and/or skill-up existing workers to meet current and future talent development needs. This will be accomplished through a collaborative model between The Ridge Learning Center, talent development partners (listed on page 2), and business partners in which specific skills are identified and result in readily available and/or customised training programs, which may also lead to certification or credential/degree. This is one type of proven training strategy used successfully elsewhere in the country; however, what makes this proposed model more distinctive and robust is the diversity of education/training providers and specialized programs/curricula provided so close to so manny businesses.

The Early Childhood Center

There is a dedicated effort on behalf of numerous regional organizations to provide high quality daycare and pre-school opportunities designed to assure all children will be ready to succeed in kindergarten. Key current advocates includes Align Southern Indiana, United Way, and regional K-12 school districts. The Early Childhood Center will provide much needed 24/7 high-quality childcare and pre-school education for the children of area employees. The pre-school component will implement the Paths to Quality standard (http://childcareindiana.org/about/) at the highest level (Level 4). The Early Childhood Center would benefit area employees by providing a convenient and high-quality child care/pre-school opportunity. In addition, employers will benefit in the short-term from improved employee attendance and, in the long-run, by investing in the quality early education children need to succeed in school, career, and life.
